More Virtual Fun for 2021

By Michael Pearsall, P.Eng., CVS, FEC – Vice President / President-Elect, SAVE International

Thank you to our new volunteers and everyone who submitted a paper in the extended call! I am pleased to see the support and response. I am so happy that we can continue to pivot and respond in new ways.

Last issue I told you a bit about the Around the World Virtual Value Crawl – more details will follow next month on that exciting component in Value World. However, this month I want to tell you a little more about the other parts of our plans for the 2021 Virtual Value Summit.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of Mark Gabel from Washington State, the last couple of years we have had a dedicated Transportation track on one day of the Value Summit. The Transportation Track has been a huge success; however this year we have expanded it to be a Civil Infrastructure track. Mark has once again taken the lead and he has this story to share:

Once upon a time there was an exciting SAVE International track at their 2nd virtual Value Summit. All who attended came away wiser and developed their skills and knowledge in many areas and competencies. Those who missed it were filled with regret…had they attend they would have heard many great speakers presenting on topics such as Arizona border wall project; Arizona DOT Value Program and Project Case study; West Shore, Lake Pontchartrain, LA (WSLP) Flood Risk Management, FRM; Pumping in value: an early value study for the Davis and Poe pump well system at Soo locks; Kansas City Streetcar Extension project; and more!

Another part of the Value Summit that people look forward to are the learning opportunities from pre- and post-Summit courses. I am very pleased to announce that again this year we will be offering virtual Value Methodology Fundamentals 1 (VMF 1) training post-Summit as well as a good slate of pre-Summit courses ranging from half a day to two-days in length. Please plan on booking some extra time on your calendar to take advantage of these opportunities.

For the presenters, just a reminder that once again we will be utilizing the GoToWebinar platform like in 2020. Plan on recording a quality MP4 of your presentations, then joining us live for 10-minutes of questions and answers.

I am looking forward to sharing many other exciting details about the 2021 Virtual Value Summit over the coming months. Make sure to mark your calendars for June 5-8, 2021 and stay tuned for more.
