SAVE International Certification Program Changes – What to Expect

The changes to the SAVE International Certification Program that have been made and will be made are part of a larger effort to align and accredit SAVE’s Certification Program with ANSI (American National Standards Institute). Through an analysis of the VE Body of Knowledge and the skills needed to be certified as a CVS and VMA, the SAVE Certification Board has developed a set of Core Competencies and Learning Objectives which will serve as the backbone of future examinations.

All current training, testing and processes will remain in effect until September 1, 2017 at which time all new processes will take effect. Therefore, if you are close to completing your requirements, please feel free to maintain your own schedules for VMA and CVS certification and follow through at this time.

Workshops

  • New training materials are being developed that will replace the current Module I and II workshops. These new workshops will be the Value Methodology Fundamentals I and Value Methodology Fundamentals II. The workshop material will be available after the 2017 Value Summit in August.
  • VM Fundamentals I and II workshops will operate through a licensing model to use the training materials.
  • At this time, SAVE is no longer approving Module I or II workshops. Already approved workshops are valid until September 1, 2017.

CVS & VMA Certification

  • VMA’s will be required to complete one SAVE e-learning course per year to maintain their certification.
  • CVS’ will be required to obtain 40 Professional Development Hours (PDH) every two years. A minimum of 70% must be from Educational related courses, and a maximum of 30% may come from Membership and Service Related areas. These hours will be reported via an affidavit form attesting that the hours were completed. Each year, a portion of CVS’ due to submit PDH will be audited and required to submit full backup documentation for PDH earned.

More details regarding the SAVE certification program changes will be communicated as they become available. Please contact SAVE International at info@value-eng.org if you have any questions.
