Renewed Life for the SAVE Redstone Alabama Chapter

By Craig Addis, CVS – Past President, SAVE International Redstone Alabama Chapter

In 2014, SAVE International granted the Redstone Alabama Chapter a renewed life as an active chapter. The Redstone Alabama Chapter was started in 1964 and was a premier chapter of the Society of American Value Engineers (SAVE) during the early years of the Society.

Value engineering studies had been documented as far back as the 1950’s with Werner Von Braun and General Medaris; they led VE studies for “cost avoidance” with many missile tests. The Redstone Alabama Chapter was originally started in the mid-1960’s during the Saturn 5/Apollo Era. It had many members and won awards from SAVE for membership advancement and chapter projects.

The Chapter continued thru the early 1990’s even when complex problems arose with the Space Shuttle Program. Then in 1993, the Chapter officially was placed in an inactive state until 2014.

In late 2014, Craig Ailles, CVS-Life and Past President of the Redstone Alabama Chapter, requested that the Chapter be reinstated by SAVE to have an active group in the Huntsville area, not only for Redstone Arsenal but North Alabama. The Chapter is in its third year, has 20 members with more than half as active members, and has registered as a non-profit private organization with the Redstone Arsenal Garrison. Over the last few years, the Redstone Alabama Chapter has presented the Value Methodology to several local organizations and is currently involved with a major value engineering project with a local government organization.

Joe Dombrowski, CVS, is the current President of the Redstone Alabama Chapter with Toni Hamilton-Datcher, Johnny Dunn and Sharon Aldijaili on the Chapter Board of Directors.

As Past President of the Chapter, I would like to invite all North Alabama and surrounding area engineers, analysts, program managers and industry partners to join SAVE and be a part of an organization that performs analysis of functions and decreases costs by using a sound, easily applied methodology. This approach can help you save time and money at work and at home.
