Editors Voice – August 2021

By Anthony Dunams, PE, CVS – Editor, Value World

So, let’s shake things up.  When you read Mike Pearsall’s President’s Message article, he discusses critical elements of his platform and continuation of elements that Immediate Past President, Renee Hoekstra, started including the rebranding push and updates to certification and education needs.  So, what are we as individual practitioners doing to move the ball forward regarding the Value Methodology (VM) and the impact and benefits of VM?  I’ll tell you what I am doing:

  1. Making VM sustainable and sharing techniques and approaches with other VM practitioners so we all grow and flourish.
  2. Leading a Global VM Community of Practice within Arcadis working with VM colleagues across the US, Europe, the Middle East and the Far East.
  3. Returning to my alma mater to lecture at a Graduate Seminar program to spread the word to graduate students about our profession.

I believe these small steps keep the profession moving forward and if we all did these things the visibility and benefit of VM grows and stays current in the industry – an industry of critical problem solving where VM is one of many ways to drive change, innovation and improvements.

There are many VM practitioners who are doing what I am doing and more and I hope you are one of those people.  The collective will of our membership is a powerful voice and if we are all engaged in spreading a little VM joy here and there, our organization grows, the job of our Board is made easier, and the future of VM thrives.
